The Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment and Fam­i­ly Ser­vices (MS­DFS) will al­lo­cate $5 mil­lion for the first phase of con­struc­tion of a home­less fa­cil­i­ty in Port-of-Spain, that will host 180 peo­ple.

This is ac­cord­ing to the Pub­lic Sec­tor In­vest­ment Pro­gramme for 2023.

The mon­ey is to com­mence de­signs and civ­il works for the con­struc­tion of an As­sess­ment and So­cial­ly Dis­placed Cen­tre at Foundry Road in Port-of-Spain.

"The five-storey fa­cil­i­ty will of­fer a vi­able al­ter­na­tive to street dwelling in Port of Spain and will ac­com­mo­date 180 per­sons," the doc­u­ment said.

The Min­istry will al­so re­ceive an in­vest­ment of $4 mil­lion for the pro­vi­sion of tran­si­tion­al fa­cil­i­ties for so­cial­ly dis­placed per­sons.

The doc­u­ment said that the Min­istry will em­bark on the fol­low­ing ac­tiv­i­ties in fis­cal 2023:

• re­fur­bish­ment of six apart­ment build­ings in Pe­nal for the es­tab­lish­ment of the Pe­nal Tran­si­tion­al Hous­ing Fa­cil­i­ty;

• out­fit­ting of the Young Women’s Chris­t­ian As­so­ci­a­tion (YW­CA) hos­tel lo­cat­ed at Cipri­ani Boule­vard in Port of Spain; and

• re­fur­bish­ment of two prop­er­ties at Beau­mont Hill at Point-a-Pierre and con­struc­tion of a perime­ter fence to se­cure the prop­er­ties.
