Po­lice found a firearm in a drain in Mor­vant on Tues­day night af­ter pur­su­ing a man wear­ing a ski mask.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), of­fi­cers were con­duct­ing mo­bile pa­trols be­tween 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. in Laven­tille, Bel­mont, Port of Spain, Beetham Gar­dens and sur­round­ing ar­eas.

Around 7.30 p.m., of­fi­cers were pa­trolling Nev­er Dirty Road, near the bas­ket­ball court, when they saw a man dressed en­tire­ly in black and wear­ing a ski mask.

Po­lice said the man was car­ry­ing a bag in his left hand and, af­ter look­ing to­wards the marked po­lice ve­hi­cle, ran to­wards Nev­er Dirty Road.

The of­fi­cers got out of the ve­hi­cle and pur­sued him on foot.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the man ran up a near­by hill, through an un­fenced yard and down an­oth­er hill be­fore en­ter­ing a bushy area, where he man­aged to es­cape.

Of­fi­cers con­duct­ed fur­ther checks for the man but were un­able to find him.

Dur­ing a search of the sur­round­ing area, how­ev­er, po­lice found a green pouch ly­ing in a drain. A firearm was dis­cov­ered in­side the pouch.

The firearm was seized and in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

The po­lice op­er­a­tion was spear­head­ed by ACP Hazel, Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Ram­nar­ine, Su­per­in­ten­dent Ram­sook and ASP Singh. It was co­or­di­nat­ed by In­spec­tor Ed­wards and su­per­vised by Sergeant Mara­jh.

Po­lice have not dis­closed the type of firearm found or whether any­one has been ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery.
