A 38-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle in Charlieville, Chaguanas, on Wednesday evening.
The victim has been identified as Sa-id Hamid Khan, of Baksh Street, Tunapuna. However, investigators said Khan was originally from Chaguanas.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 7 pm. Khan was parked in his Honda Vezel SUV outside the General Accident Insurance compound in Charlieville when another vehicle reportedly pulled up nearby.
Police said a lone gunman exited the vehicle and opened fire, shooting Khan multiple times before fleeing the scene. Khan sustained several gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Investigators believe the attack was carried out by a lone gunman. Up to Thursday, police said they had not established a motive for the killing.
Officers of the Central Division responded to the scene and carried out initial inquiries. Detectives attached to the Homicide Bureau Region III have since taken over the investigation.
Police are continuing their inquiries and are appealing to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
