A gunman hid in a drain in Point Fortin and opened fire on a couple on Friday night.

Police said Nikeisha Henry, 33, of Third Street, was sitting in her yard with Fred Simon, 23, a security officer of 10th Street Extension, Techier, when they heard loud gunshots around 10:20 pm.

Henry told police she felt a burning sensation to her left hip and leg and when she looked down she was bleeding. She then saw Simon slumped to the ground, bleeding from a bullet wound to the left side of his chest.

Henry called out to her cousin Ketisha Joseph who called for an ambulance.

Police officers led by PC Ramsumair and Edwards from the Southwestern Divisional Task Force responded to the shooting. Henry was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital while Simon, who suffered a punctured lung, was rushed by ambulance to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Investigators said Henry suffered a bullet graze to her inner calve and her left hip. She discharged herself from the hospital. However, Simon remained warded in a critical condition up to late yesterday.

Officer later received information that a man was seen hiding in a drain and he fired upon the victims before running off. No motive has yet been established for the shooting. Insp Nemai and Sgt Sobie are heading investigations.

During my consultation with Ms Brafit CEO Nicole Joseph-Chin, what was supposed to be a simple mastectomy bra fitting became something much deeper. Her thoughtful questions unlocked emotions I didn’t even realise I was holding in. She comforted, reassured, and helped me face the truth of what was coming. That bra wasn’t just clothing—it was the first real symbol of life after surgery.
