A gun­man was fa­tal­ly shot by an off-du­ty po­lice of­fi­cer who in­ter­vened af­ter the sus­pect shot a man dur­ing an at­tempt­ed rob­bery in Ch­agua­nas, this morn­ing.

The sus­pect has not yet been iden­ti­fied.

At the time of the in­ci­dent, the po­lice con­sta­ble and an­oth­er of­fi­cer re­port­ed­ly were cel­e­brat­ing a birth­day with friends at SamKiss bar, lo­cat­ed along the South­ern Main Road in Chase Vil­lage.

Ini­tial re­ports stat­ed that around 12.20 am the con­sta­ble saw the sus­pect, who was dressed in a hood­ie, ap­proach a parked sil­ver Nis­san Ti­i­da. 

The sus­pect re­port­ed­ly pulled out a gun and fired two shots at the dri­ver.

The of­fi­cer drew his ser­vice pis­tol and shout­ed po­lice.  The sus­pect turned the gun on the of­fi­cer who fired at him in re­sponse.

The sus­pect was shot sev­er­al times and fell to the ground. The re­volver fell from his hand.

Of­fi­cers of the Freeport Po­lice Sta­tion and the Emer­gency Health Ser­vices ar­rived at the scene and took both the sus­pect and the in­jured dri­ver—a 23-year-old Ch­agua­nas man—to the Ch­agua­nas Health Fa­cil­i­ty.  

The sus­pect was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival at the health fa­cil­i­ty at 12:50 am.
