A 32-year-old taxi dri­ver who was seen bran­dish­ing a gun while lim­ing in Mal­abar on Sun­day night, was found dead short­ly af­ter.

Po­lice said De­vanand Dwari­ka was lim­ing near Gar­de­nia and Cro­ton Streets, around 10 pm when he was seen with the gun.

Res­i­dents said Dwari­ka made threats to sev­er­al peo­ple in the area be­fore leav­ing and re­turn­ing short­ly af­ter with two oth­er peo­ple.

Neigh­bours told po­lice they heard gun­shots.

On check­ing, they found Dwari­ka bleed­ing and ly­ing down in the near­by recre­ation grounds.

North­ern Di­vi­sion po­lice were called in with a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer who de­clared Dwari­ka dead at the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said Dwari­ka was hold­ing a black side bag, which con­tained a re­volver with three live rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and two spent shells in the cham­ber.

Of­fi­cers of the Spe­cial Ev­i­dence Re­cov­ery Unit (SERU) found three spent 9-mil­lime­tre shell cas­ings near his body.

Re­gion II Homi­cide in­ves­ti­ga­tors are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
