A trench which was dug across a road at Blitz Vil­lage Ex­ten­sion, Pleas­antville, to pro­tect buried pipelines be­long­ing to Her­itage Pe­tro­le­um, has been cov­ered up.

A team from Her­itage Pe­tro­le­um yes­ter­day vis­it­ed the area and closed up the trench, which was filled with wa­ter.

How­ev­er, res­i­dent Judy Gar­cia said while the trench was fixed, this did not solve their con­cerns.

“Her­itage came at 8 am and will be com­ing back to­mor­row (to­day). They filled the hole and we ex­pect a vis­it from MP Bri­an Man­ning to speak with us to see what al­ter­na­tive ac­cess road could be found,” Gar­cia said.

Mean­while, Her­itage said it has al­ready ad­vised res­i­dents not to cross the buried pipeline with ve­hi­cles.

In a state­ment ear­li­er this week, Her­itage con­firmed that it had con­duct­ed a me­chan­i­cal in­tegri­ty in­spec­tion of its main trunk oil pipelines along its Right of Way from Philip­pine to Pointe-a-Pierre in South Trinidad.

The com­pa­ny said the as­sess­ment in­volved the re­moval of unau­tho­rised struc­tures to gain ac­cess to the pipelines.

The com­pa­ny said a road which had been con­struct­ed over one of the buried pipelines with­out Her­itage’s per­mis­sion by res­i­dents in the Blitz Vil­lage area was re­moved, as it could com­pro­mise the in­tegri­ty of the pipeline.

The com­pa­ny said the ex­ca­vat­ed por­tions of the pipeline were cov­ered but this be­came dis­lodged with rain­fall.

The com­pa­ny is call­ing on mem­bers of the pub­lic to call the hot­line num­ber 649-5521 to re­port any mat­ters re­lat­ed to Her­itage’s op­er­a­tions.

On Tues­day, res­i­dents of Blitz Vil­lage Ex­ten­sion ac­cused Her­itage of dis­rupt­ing their liveli­hoods, say­ing the com­pa­ny had dug a trench across their road, pre­vent­ing ve­hic­u­lar ac­cess to their homes.
