The Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice has dis­con­tin­ued the High Wind Alert for Trinidad and To­ba­go at 1:45 PM Fri­day. How­ev­er, mod­er­ate im­pacts are still pos­si­ble.

In their dis­con­tin­u­a­tion, the Met Of­fice not­ed, “While gusty con­di­tions can still ac­com­pa­ny show­ery ac­tiv­i­ty, the po­ten­tial for winds to gusts in ex­cess of 55km/h has de­creased. Wave heights are fore­cast to grad­u­al­ly de­crease and reach up to 2.0 me­tres in open wa­ters and less than 1.0 me­tre in shel­tered ar­eas.”

They add that the pub­lic should, “Con­tin­ue to be vig­i­lant to weath­er con­di­tions, es­pe­cial­ly in the vicin­i­ty show­ers. Ma­rine in­ter­ests should ex­er­cise cau­tion in all ac­tiv­i­ty. Al­ways heed the in­struc­tions of life­guards and mon­i­tor of­fi­cial weath­er up­dates.”

The alert ini­tial­ly went in­to ef­fect for Trinidad and To­ba­go on Wednes­day, June 14th, 2023 at 8:00 AM. Gusty winds swept across the coun­try and off­shore ar­eas on Wednes­day morn­ing, prompt­ing the Met Of­fice to up­grade the alert to Or­ange Lev­el by Wednes­day af­ter­noon.

Re­ports of roof dam­age and fall­en trees were pre­dom­i­nant­ly across north­ern and Cen­tral Trinidad, as well as To­ba­go. Three peo­ple were in­jured when a tree fell on a mov­ing ve­hi­cle at Mt. Hope.
