The Apollo Indraprastha Hospital in India has deferred payment for 12-year-old Kelsey Cabralis, allowing her to get the lifesaving procedures done immediately while the family will pay at a later date.
Cabralis needs a bone marrow transplant and other procedures to put this disease behind her.
The family had reached out to hospitals in countries such as Canada, Cuba and India for the treatment and received quotes amounting to $1.2 million.
In an update, her aunt Irma Sookoo said: “(The) hospital is aware that the family of Kelsey is in the process of raising funds and has agreed to commence treatment immediately due to the urgency of her condition and in an effort to save her life.
“The goal after liaising with the local representative for Apollo is to have Kelsey leave Trinidad within the next two weeks for India, where she will commence salvage chemotherapy, which is not available locally, to bring her Leukaemia into remission. Kelsey will then undergo a bone marrow transplant that will cure her condition and allow her to live a normal life.”
She said treatment will take place over a six-month period and the family will be required to settle Kelsey’s medical bill in full upon completion of the treatment.
“All financial contributions are appreciated and payment can be made directly to the facility on behalf of Kelsey or to the local account setup,” she said.
At just 12, this is Kelsey’s third battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
The bank account is #110000004575259, at Royal Bank Canada (RBC) in the name of Candice Moraldo/Irma Sookoo for TT-dollar donations.
