San Juan police were yesterday hunting for the suspect who killed an employee of Ramlal’s, El Socorro, during an argument in its car park.
Maurice Grant, 49, of Claxton Bay, was described as an honest, hard-working and dedicated employee who had faithfully served the establishment for over 20 years.
Reports indicate the easy-going and loving man, as he was described by his friends and co-workers, had gone just after midday to deliver a purchase for the suspect in the car park, which is located opposite the business along the El Socorro Main Road.
It was alleged that the suspect and victim became embroiled in an argument over the items, and as Grant turned his back to walk away, the suspect, who lives in the El Socorro area, pulled out a knife and stabbed him.
Grant ran a short distance away and collapsed under a shed, where he died, as the suspect, who is known in the area, calmly drove out of Geelal’s Parking Lot along the El Socorro Main Road.
Grant’s body was only discovered after employees checked on him after he failed to return.
Although business operations continued as normal yesterday, employees cried openly as they attended to customers.
Removing his glasses as he wiped tears, one man said, “He was an honest, truthful and punctual person.”
Another said, “He was like part of the family.”
Admitting they had been traumatised, as they initially thought it was a joke when someone reported Grant lying on the ground, a third man added, “He used to look out for everybody.”
Two onlookers living close by expressed sympathy over the killing as they agreed Grant had been well-known and well-loved by all the customers and even persons living in the immediate environment.
One man blasted the owner of the wholesale and retail business for continuing to remain open after the incident.
Another onlooker said, “A man who wukking for allyuh just dead and alyuh ain’t close up? Alyuh too wicked.”
