Hunters can be­gin pur­chas­ing State Game Li­cences from to­day ahead of the 2026-2027 hunt­ing sea­son, which opens on Oc­to­ber 1.

The Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture, Land and Fish­eries said the sea­son will run un­til Feb­ru­ary 28, 2027, af­ter which hunt­ing of the list­ed game species will be pro­hib­it­ed dur­ing March.

Each State Game Li­cence costs $100 per game species, with a max­i­mum of three li­cences al­lowed per hunter.

The min­istry is re­mind­ing hunters to fa­mil­iarise them­selves with the Con­ser­va­tion of Wild Life Act and en­sure all hunt­ing ac­tiv­i­ties com­ply with the law.

Li­cences al­low hold­ers to hunt the species spec­i­fied on their li­cences on State Lands and For­est Re­serves.

Hunters are al­so be­ing re­mind­ed that the hunt­ing and pos­ses­sion of igua­na will be pro­hib­it­ed dur­ing the months of Jan­u­ary, Feb­ru­ary and March.

Igua­na hunt­ing must end on De­cem­ber 31, 2026, and any­one caught hunt­ing or pos­sess­ing igua­na dur­ing the pro­hib­it­ed pe­ri­od faces a $10,000 fine.

Hunt­ing lizards is al­so pro­hib­it­ed with­in the mu­nic­i­pal bound­aries of Port-of-Spain.

Hunters have un­til March 31, 2027, to dis­pose of game an­i­mal car­cass­es or parts there­of. Igua­na car­cass­es must be dis­posed of by mid­night on De­cem­ber 31.

Li­cences are avail­able at des­ig­nat­ed Forestry Di­vi­sion and Dis­trict Rev­enue of­fices in Trinidad and To­ba­go.
