Cou­va South MP Rudy In­dars­ingh has ex­tend­ed con­grat­u­la­tions to Nicholas Pooran on be­ing ap­point­ed West In­dies white-ball cap­tain. Pooran, who hails from Cen­tral Trinidad, re­places Kieron Pol­lard as in­ter­na­tion­al cap­tain in the One Day In­ter­na­tion­al and T20I for­mats af­ter an­nounc­ing his re­tire­ment from in­ter­na­tion­al crick­et two weeks ago. Be­low is the re­lease from the Cou­va South MP’s of­fice. 

I wish to ex­tend heart­felt con­grat­u­la­tions to my con­stituent of Cou­va South and the new cap­tain of the West In­dies ODI and T20 Teams, Nicholas Pooran. 

His ap­point­ment as Cap­tain of our great re­gion­al team marks a new chap­ter of pos­si­bil­i­ties for him, his team­mates and crick­et afi­ciona­dos through­out our great re­gion. 

Nicholas has dis­tin­guished him­self through a young but ex­cit­ing ca­reer in in­ter­na­tion­al crick­et, and there is both high hope for and high ex­pec­ta­tions of his cap­tain­cy. Hail­ing from Der­ry Lane, Mc Bean Vil­lage, Cou­va, Cal­cut­ta #1, he be­gan his crick­et­ing jour­ney at Mc Bean Sports Club in Cou­va, over the years he had as­so­ci­a­tions with the Ku­mar Ram­pat Crick­et Acad­e­my which has help de­vel­op his all-round crick­et­ing and lead­er­ship skills and is now head­lin­ing across the world. Nicholas’ ap­point­ment as cap­tain is a tes­ti­mo­ny to the con­fi­dence he has in­spired through his skill and hu­mil­i­ty. 

Let me thank out­go­ing skip­per Kieron Pol­lard for his im­me­di­ate past lead­er­ship of our re­gion­al squad, and I hope that his ex­pe­ri­ence can be used to as a foun­da­tion for fu­ture suc­cess­es of the T20 team. 

We will be pay­ing keen at­ten­tion to the ICC Men's World Cup 2022 and the ICC Men's Crick­et World Cup 2023. 

May we seize Nicholas' ap­point­ment as cap­tain as an op­por­tu­ni­ty for all to ral­ly around the West In­dies, and hope that this will lead to the much an­tic­i­pat­ed rise of the West In­dies to the glo­ry it held in the 1970's /1980's gold­en era of West In­dies crick­et.
