One person has been stabbed and killed at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca as suspected gang violence broke out within prison walls.

Confirmation of the death came moments ago from the police however no identity has yet been released.

The Prison Service is yet to confirm the killing nor has it released a statement yet on the matter.

A video circulating online from within the prison shows inmates chasing another attempting to kick him. In another video an inmate was grabbed by a group and carried away.

Prison Officers Association President Gerard Gordon told Guardian Media that he is still receiving information on this developing situation and could not confirm if any of his officers have been injured in the fracas. He said preliminary information is also suggesting it is gang warfare.
