Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro yesterday said an Interpol Red Notice has been issued for a fourth suspect in the continuing investigation into the murder of acting corporal Anuska Eversley and the theft of firearms and ammunition from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station. He said the suspect may have fled the jurisdiction.
Eversley was discovered murdered inside the police station on April 19, and over 100 firearms and ammunition were found missing. Police have since recovered 44 firearms and more than 900 rounds of ammunition.
Asked for an update on the firearms audit that was undertaken following Eversley’s murder, Guevarro said, “It’s a very large-scale project. Generally, they are about 50 to 55 per cent complete at this time.”
But even as an international manhunt is underway for a fourth suspect in the case, some of her colleagues are still receiving counselling.
Senior Supt Wayne Mohammed, who took charge of the station following the suspension of Snr Supt Dunstan Renn following the incident, yesterday said he has been working closely with the officers, the San Fernando Mayor and CEO, the business community and other stakeholders to restore stability and improve conditions at the station.
He said the station’s strength has not yet returned to full capacity, as some officers remain on sick leave. Despite the manpower challenges, Mohammed said operations are continuing and officers are making every effort to ensure the safety and security of burgesses in the southern city.
Mohammed also assured that there will be proper accountability and supervision of the officers, with no room for complacency. He revealed that a sergeant will be assigned to each shift.
Mohammed said Eversley’s colleagues received counselling from the TTPS Victim and Witness Support Unit, while the Consolidated Association of Municipal Police also held a worship session and provided support for officers in the wake of her killing. He added that the Greater San Fernando Area Chamber and the San Fernando Business Association have also been offering support.
With ten gallons of paint donated by San Fernando Business Association president Daphne Bartlett, he said corporation workers are expected to begin repainting the interior of the station in an effort to uplift the atmosphere and boost morale. He said T&TEC also conducted a site visit and agreed to install proper lighting at the station.
On April 28, three men, Eversley’s colleague, Constable Jivan “Biggs” Cooper, Kwame Arnold, 20, and Nicholas “Nico” Ramdass, all of Claxton Bay, appeared in court charged with four offences, including murder, possession of firearms, possession of ammunition and robbing Eversley of 114 pistols, one revolver, six shotguns, two MPX submachine guns, 173 firearm magazines, 4,355 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 30 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition and ten rounds of .38 ammunition.
