Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the ex­plo­sion at the Parkade in, Port-of-Spain, on Mon­day.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said they are util­is­ing tech­nol­o­gy to ap­pre­hend the per­pe­tra­tor or per­pe­tra­tors.

Speak­ing to Guardian Me­dia dur­ing a brief phone in­ter­view yes­ter­day, Deputy Com­mis­sion­er Po­lice Mc Don­ald Ja­cob said the TTPS is work­ing with the man­age­ment of the Parkade to up­grade its CCTV and se­cu­ri­ty sys­tems to avoid fur­ther oc­cur­rences.

The ex­plo­sion on Mon­day caused pan­ic in the cap­i­tal city with many streets cor­doned off and traf­fic di­vert­ed with busi­ness­es and Gov­ern­ment Min­istries be­ing closed and staff evac­u­at­ed.

But Mon­day ex­cite­ment spilled over to yes­ter­day, how­ev­er the TTPS de­nied that there was an ex­plo­sion at the Cen­tral Bank, Er­ic Williams Plaza, In­de­pen­dence Square.

In a me­dia re­lease, the TTPS not­ed that around 11.39 am a fire alarm at the Cen­tral Bank Build­ing was trig­gered.

Fire ap­pli­ances from the Wright­son Road Fire Sta­tion along with po­lice of­fi­cers from the Cen­tral Po­lice Sta­tion and CID of­fi­cers re­spond­ed.

The re­lease stat­ed that smoke from the De­struc­tion Room, which is next to the vault trig­gered the alarm and all per­son­nel were evac­u­at­ed from the build­ings.

En­quiries re­vealed that the source of the smoke was a worn gear wheel belt on a com­pres­sor.

The Fire Ser­vice per­son­nel made their in­spec­tion and cleared the build­ing for re-oc­cu­pa­tion.
