Prime Minister-elect Kamla Persad-Bissessar has praised the resiliency of the United National Congress (UNC) on the 36th anniversary of the party's founding.
In a statement to the media, Persad-Bissessar praised the founding members of the party as "a group of committed patriots from across the length and breadth of T&T huddled under umbrellas in the rain in Aranguez Savannah."
She said, "This marked the beginning of a remarkable political and social journey that has altered the course of our nation’s history and continues to shape and positively impact the lives of countless individuals."
Persad-Bissessar was the first woman attorney general of this country as well as first female prime minister. She added, "From that group of political outcasts in the muddy, rain-soaked field of Aranguez, the UNC has today grown into one of the nation’s and Caribbean’s most powerful political entities, which, only two days ago, secured one of the most historic, comprehensive, landslide victories in the recently concluded April 28, 2025 General Elections."
She said the party is committed to an even greater future for T&T, adding, "And it reinforces that today, the UNC remains resilient and responsive to all domestic and global challenges and opportunities that confront us as a people, well equipped and ready to rebuild and restore our nation to a place of peace, equality and progress."
Persad-Bissessar thanked the supporters of the party to the elders.
