Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has accused the Prime Minister of having his mind in a “racial gutter” after he condemned the United National Congress’ (UNC) proposed ‘stand your ground’ law.
Touted as a means for the public to protect their homes and families, the UNC has announced that if returned to power it will bring “Stand Your Ground” legislation to the Parliament as the party believes the current self-defence laws are inadequate.
However, speaking on June 30 in St James at a People’s National Movement (PNM) meeting, Dr Rowley rubbished the proposal saying that it seems as if Persad-Bissessar wants to arm a certain race of people to shoot people of another race.
But during the UNC’s Monday Night Report yesterday in Couva, Persad-Bissessar said it was Dr Keith Rowley who is attempting to “incite racial war”.
Persad-Bissessar said it was concerning that the Prime Minister can conceive “such a nasty racial conspiracy”.
“Rowley is so out of touch with reality, he does not realise that people are so terrified and scared when criminals break into their homes, they will shoot to protect their family regardless of whether the bandit is brown, black, green, yellow, pink or red.”
Persad-Bissessar said she strongly condemns the Prime Minister for his “dangerous and evil comments”.
