Op­po­si­tion Leader Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has ac­cused the Prime Min­is­ter of hav­ing his mind in a “racial gut­ter” af­ter he con­demned the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress’ (UNC) pro­posed ‘stand your ground’ law.

Tout­ed as a means for the pub­lic to pro­tect their homes and fam­i­lies, the UNC has an­nounced that if re­turned to pow­er it will bring “Stand Your Ground” leg­is­la­tion to the Par­lia­ment as the par­ty be­lieves the cur­rent self-de­fence laws are in­ad­e­quate.

How­ev­er, speak­ing on June 30 in St James at a Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment (PNM) meet­ing, Dr Row­ley rub­bished the pro­pos­al say­ing that it seems as if Per­sad-Bisses­sar wants to arm a cer­tain race of peo­ple to shoot peo­ple of an­oth­er race.

But dur­ing the UNC’s Mon­day Night Re­port yes­ter­day in Cou­va, Per­sad-Bisses­sar said it was Dr Kei­th Row­ley who is at­tempt­ing to “in­cite racial war”.

Per­sad-Bisses­sar said it was con­cern­ing that the Prime Min­is­ter can con­ceive “such a nasty racial con­spir­a­cy”.

“Row­ley is so out of touch with re­al­i­ty, he does not re­alise that peo­ple are so ter­ri­fied and scared when crim­i­nals break in­to their homes, they will shoot to pro­tect their fam­i­ly re­gard­less of whether the ban­dit is brown, black, green, yel­low, pink or red.”

Per­sad-Bisses­sar said she strong­ly con­demns the Prime Min­is­ter for his “dan­ger­ous and evil com­ments”.
