Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says in the coming days she intends to file a motion against Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley in Parliament for "misleading" the Parliament by saying the UNC did not act on the 1997 Robert Sabga report into child abuse at homes.

Persad-Bissessar, speaking during a United National Congress (UNC) meeting in Couva on Saturday, said she would not spend her time defending the UNC’s actions when the Robert Sabga-led task force unearthed physical and sexual abuse, malfeasance, neglect and widespread mistreatment of wards of the State at children’s homes.

There have been claims that the report was buried and no action taken, which the UNC has strongly denied.

Last week, the Prime Minister charged acting Police Commissioner Mc Donald Jacob with finding the report and taking action.

"He wants to talk about the report, it disappeared under the PNM, and it is only when I came back and the UNC came back in 2010 that we picked up the package of legislation, and we made it happen.

"And this liar, he is king liar himself, he said he operationalised the Children’s Authority. Really?"

Saying it is alleged there is a paedophile ring in the PNM, Persad-Bissessar added, "As they say, call names…PNM, Paedophile National Movement.”

Last week, in a media report Persad-Bissessar called on the police to investigate allegations of a long-standing paedophile ring operating within the PNM. She also asked PM Rowley to call the names of PNM colleagues involved in the paedophile ring alleged by Sabga.

On Saturday, she again called on the PM to name the members of the paedophile ring.

Persad-Bissessar said the country was overrun with criminals and crime, but the most "hurtful" was the abuse of children.

"Somebody told me a few days ago, listen, you are my friend, I am your friend…If my friend says a bad word, I might say, ok, you are still my friend. If my friend cuffs down Wade Mark, I might say well, maybe not so, but ok, you are still my friend. But when your friend interferes with a child, we say no! Enough is enough! Never, never, never!" Persad-Bissessar said.

She added, "I know categorically no UNC was ever involved in any of that abuse on children, none!”

Persad-Bissessar also chastised the Government, saying the promised-pepper spray legislation and the national CCTV camera network were still nowhere to be seen.
