The Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said yesterday that while she has no objection to the sale of the refinery to locals, there are several questions the Government must answer.
In a statement yesterday, Persad-Bissessar said Finance Minister Colm Imbert needs to explain how a company incorporated on December 4, 2018, just about ten months ago, would be able to provide finance and expertise to secure a multi-billion-dollar industrial asset.
In addition, the Opposition Leader called on the minister to reveal “any and all foreign partners associated with the preferred company, the Patriotic Energies and Technologies Company Limited owned by the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union.”
Another question she wants answered is for the Government to explain “what circumstances they have taken a decision to give away a multibillion-dollar asset, without the payment of a single dollar to a company that is less than one year old”.
