On the eve of her funeral and during a candlelight vigil held in memory of her, Keithisha Cudjoe’s aunt, yesterday, questioned how someone could be so heartless to take the life of someone so kind.

The vigil was held at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain from 6 pm to 8 pm with a handful of friends and family.

Cudjoe’s family has been calling for justice since her death although some have said that they are doubtful they will get it.

Speaking with the Guardian Media during an interview last night, Cudjoe’s aunt, Zinaya, became emotional when she spoke of how Cudjoe’s three-year-old would be asking for his mother every day and every night.

“It’s hard to believe that we have people in our society that can violate somebody in that way and what is the word safe? How do you be more safe? What, we lock ourselves in little rooms, glass box, have somebody tote us everywhere? Get security guards? That’s where we are as a society?”

Zinaya said that she believes there is need to start over from the foundation.

“You have to love our kids more. Be a little more patient with them because remember, what we produce is what we send out.”

She thanked everyone who came together and had vigils on their own in memory of her “sweet” niece.

The vigil ended with a walk around the Savannah.

An autopsy done on the body of Cudjoe last Friday was inconclusive on the cause of death due to the advanced state of decomposition.

Cudjoe, 21, who was originally from Upper Covigne Road, went missing from her home on January 24, however, an official missing person’s report was filed by relatives on January 29, the day after a decomposing body was found in the Heights of Aripo on January 28.

That decomposing body was identified as Cudjoe’s last Tuesday by her relatives using her shoe, glasses and bits of clothing.

Police told Guardian Media that investigations into Cudjoe’s disappearance and death are still “active” and added that one person has since been detained for questioning.

However, investigators are asking members of the public who may have any information to contact them at 999, 555, 800 TIPS or via the TTPS App.
