Labourer jailed for breaching protection order

One of three men charged with breach­ing a pro­tec­tion or­der has been jailed for six months.

Ter­ron Williams, 40, plead­ed guilty while the oth­er two men Selvon An­drews and Jesse Ram­rat­tan plead­ed not guilty when they ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly in the Princes Town Mag­is­trates’ Court.

They were ar­rest­ed dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise over the week­end which was spear­head­ed by Supt Guy-Al­leyne and In­sp Weaver-Ali of the Gen­der-Based Vi­o­lence Unit (GB­VU).

Williams, a labour­er, of In­di­an Walk, Moru­ga breached a pro­tec­tion or­der on three oc­ca­sions in June, No­vem­ber, and De­cem­ber last year.

He was charged by PCs Valen­tine and Mo­hammed of the south­ern branch of the GB­VU.

Af­ter hear­ing the ev­i­dence, Mag­is­trate In­di­ra Misir-Go­sine sen­tenced him to two months on each charge to run con­sec­u­tive­ly.

Mean­while, An­drews, 39, al­so of In­di­an Walk, Moru­ga was charged with five of­fences, in­clud­ing three counts of breach­ing a pro­tec­tion or­der.

He al­leged­ly com­mit­ted those of­fences in No­vem­ber and De­cem­ber last year and ear­li­er this month.

He was al­so charged with ma­li­cious dam­age and lar­ce­ny.

The charges were laid by PC Craw­ford, WPC Flem­ing, and WPC Syl­van The mag­is­trate grant­ed him $25,000 mag­is­tra­cy reg­is­trar ap­proval bail or a cash bail of $7,000. The mat­ter was ad­journed to Feb­ru­ary 8.

Ram­rat­tan, 33, of St Ju­lian Vil­lage, Princes Town, was charged by WPC Box­ie-Aguillera with breach­ing a pro­tec­tion or­der and ma­li­cious wound­ing.

The of­fences were al­leged­ly com­mit­ted last De­cem­ber.

He was grant­ed $25,000 mag­is­tra­cy reg­is­trar ap­proval bail or in the al­ter­na­tive $10,000 cash bail. The mat­ter was ad­journed to Feb­ru­ary 2. Ag In­sp Ramdeo Sookdeo pros­e­cut­ed in the mat­ters.
