After police stopped receiving a signal from Vishal Singh’s electronic ankle monitor, they launched a search in the last location where it was picked up, which led to the discovery of his decomposing body yesterday.
The body was found in a bushy area in Mc Bean, Couva, at 9.30 am.
Investigators said Singh, of Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, was on bail for a series of offences, including sexual misconduct.
Officers from the Electronic Monitoring Unit (EMU) made a report to the Couva Police Station, after they lost the signal to Singh’s monitor and efforts to contact him failed.
Central Division Task Force officers accompanied the EMU to the last recorded GPS location of Singh’s ankle monitor and found his body with an apparent wound to the head and both hands tied behind his back.
Detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three have started enquiries.
They could not confirm reports that someone kidnapped Singh from his home and shot him.
The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, for an autopsy.
