An intelligence-led operation by officers of the Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit has led to the seizure of 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition and the arrest of a Laventille man.
The exercise between 1.15 pm and 4 pm on Wednesday, took place near the Nelson Street Girls’ Primary School.
The operation was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin.
Acting on information, officers stopped a white Nissan Frontier which was being driven by a 40-year-old man of Leotaud Street, Laventille.
Following a thorough search of the vehicle, the officers found 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed in a cardboard box; along with 197 grammes of marijuana; and an undisclosed sum of US and TT currency.
The suspect was arrested and later taken to the West End Police Station, along with the exhibits.
