Laventille man killed after being called outside his house

A Laven­tille man who man­aged to es­cape death two years ago was killed yes­ter­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said Ak­il St John, 42, of Richard­son Lane, was shot sev­er­al times by gun­men as he ex­it­ed his house af­ter be­ing called out­side around 6.30 am yes­ter­day.

Res­i­dents alert­ed the po­lice and came out to find St John ly­ing in his front yard, bleed­ing from sev­er­al gun­shot wounds.

He was tak­en to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead.

St John’s killing has been de­scribed by in­ves­ti­ga­tors as gang-re­lat­ed.

And in a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent at Pen­co Av­enue, Long­denville around 8.50 pm on Sun­day – one man was shot dead while an­oth­er was in­jured.

Res­i­dents re­port­ed hear­ing gun­shots com­ing from Lewi­son Street and con­tact­ed po­lice.

Of­fi­cers ar­rived to find Shel­don St Clair, 35, of Pen­co Av­enue, dead.

Of­fi­cers were told by res­i­dents that a 21-year-old man had al­so been in­jured dur­ing the shoot­ing and was tak­en to hos­pi­tal for treat­ment, where he re­mained in a sta­ble con­di­tion up to yes­ter­day.
