One man was killed and another injured during a mid-afternoon shooting in Laventille yesterday.
The victim was identified as Claude Sandy, 38, of Mariquite Street, East Dry River, Port-of-Spain.
Residents reported hearing rapid gunfire around 1 pm, and upon checking, found Sandy dead on the steps leading to his house.
A second victim who lives close by and was reportedly liming with Sandy, was shot in the leg.
He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
When Guardian Media visited the area shortly after the killing, the area remained quiet as residents looked out from the safety of their homes.
No one ventured out, although several people were seen peeking from behind curtains.
Police officials later advised media personnel not to remain in the area as it was unsafe.
