A man has been shot and killed in cap­i­tal city, Port-of-Spain, while two oth­ers were wound­ed in the same shoot­ing in­ci­dent, one of whom is wheel­chair bound.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands around 8:30 pm on Au­gust 22, Av­ery Weekes was shot dead at Harpe Place, Port-of-Spain.

The 27-year-old, of Basilon Street, East Dry Riv­er, Laven­tille, had just got­ten out of a car and was walk­ing along Ob­ser­va­to­ry Street when a gun­man ex­it­ed a ve­hi­cle that had been idling near­by.

The sus­pect re­port­ed­ly be­gan shoot­ing at Weekes who be­gan run­ning, and as he fell to the ground, the gun­man stood over him and shot him sev­er­al more times.

The killer then got back in­to the wait­ing car and es­caped along Bath Street, East Dry Riv­er.

Re­ports are a wheel­chair-bound man al­so was in­jured dur­ing the in­ci­dent.

The two men were tak­en to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where Weeks was pro­nounced dead.

The wheel­chair-bound man was treat­ed and ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion up to this morn­ing.

A third man, who re­port­ed­ly was in­tox­i­cat­ed at the time of the shoot­ing and was grazed in the leg by a bul­let, re­fused med­ical treat­ment.

Po­lice said Weekes’ killing ap­peared to be gang-re­lat­ed.
