A 50-year-old man was grant­ed bail in the sum of $50,000 by Jus­tice of the Peace Stephen Young, af­ter he was ar­rest­ed and charged with Fraud­u­lent Con­ver­sion.

He is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear at the Port of Spain Mag­is­trate’s Court on March 31.

The ac­cused, Lester Her­rera (of Barataria), was ar­rest­ed on Thurs­day, March 9, and charged with the of­fence.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, dur­ing the pe­ri­od Sep­tem­ber 20 and Oc­to­ber 31, 2020, a woman paid the ac­cused a sum to­talling $20,000 as a down pay­ment to com­mence con­struc­tion of a two-bed­room house at Diego Mar­tin.

Re­ports say the ac­cused nev­er com­menced the con­struc­tion and ef­forts by the vic­tim to get a re­fund proved fu­tile.

A re­port was made to the Fraud Squad and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion was launched by WPC Walkes, and as a re­sult, the ac­cused was charged for the of­fence of Fraud­u­lent Con­ver­sion of $20,000 on March 10, 2023.
