A 59-year-old handy­man died in a sus­pect­ed drown­ing at Mara­cas Bay on Tues­day evening.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the vic­tim as Lakhan Ram­s­ingh of LP 4 North Coast Road, Mara­cas.

Around 7 pm, Ram­s­ingh was drink­ing al­co­hol and lim­ing with his friend, Joseph Kan­galee, in the Mara­cas Bay fish­ing vil­lage. 

Kan­galee left to at­tend to a pot on the fire and, on his re­turn, dis­cov­ered Ram­s­ingh miss­ing. 

He and oth­ers searched the area and lat­er found Ram­s­ingh float­ing in the murky wa­ters of the Mara­cas Bay es­tu­ary.

Ram­s­ingh was still alive when he was pulled from the wa­ter and tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival.
