A Point Fortin man and woman were arrested on Friday after allegedly demanding $10,000 from a victim and threatening to burn his vehicle if he did not pay.

Police said the arrests followed “Operation Strike Point”, a sting led by the Anti-Extortion Unit with support from the National Special Operations Unit and the Air Support Unit.

Investigators said the victim was told to meet the suspects at a supermarket car park on Point Fortin Main Road. While seated in his vehicle, a woman approached and said she was there to collect the money.

After the victim handed over the cash, officers moved in and arrested the 27-year-old woman of Spring Trace, Warden Road, Point Fortin. The cash was recovered at the scene.

Further enquiries led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man, also of Warden Road, Point Fortin.
