A 36-year-old man charged with com­mon as­sault has been grant­ed $8000 bail by Mag­is­trate Ava Van­de­burg-Bai­ley at the Ma­yaro Mag­is­trates’ Court. He is ex­pect­ed to reap­pear in court on May 17th.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, on April 16th, dur­ing a do­mes­tic dis­pute be­tween a man and his com­mon-law wife the man al­leged­ly held a cut­lass, point­ed it to­wards the woman and threat­ened her.

The mat­ter was re­port­ed to the Ma­yaro Gen­der-Based Vi­o­lence Unit and WPC Ram­saran con­duct­ed in­ves­ti­ga­tions. As a re­sult, the man was ar­rest­ed on 16th April, and sub­se­quent­ly charged on 19th April with the of­fence. In­ves­ti­ga­tions were su­per­vised by Se­nior Supt. Claire Guy Al­leyne, ASP Bridglal, In­spec­tor Lopez and Sergeant Acres.
