A dispute over unpaid entrance fees at the Argyle Waterfall in Tobago ended in violence on Saturday afternoon, when a man was chopped during a confrontation.

Police said 56-year-old Samuel Baptiste, a farmer from Main Road, Argyle, was leading a group of five people across the river—allegedly to avoid paying entrance fees—when he was confronted by a craft vendor. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m.

The vendor reportedly told Baptiste it was unfair to bring people into the site without paying, as it could negatively impact his business.

An argument broke out and quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the scuffle, the vendor allegedly grabbed a cutlass and chopped Baptiste.

The injured man was rushed to the Roxborough Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

The vendor was arrested and taken to the Roxborough Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
