A 37-year-old man is in sta­ble but crit­i­cal con­di­tion af­ter a chop­ping in Champs Fleurs on Sat­ur­day night.

Po­lice said the man was stand­ing out­side the One Stop Con­ve­nience Store at the cor­ner of the East­ern Main Road and Mt D'Or Road, around 9 pm when he got in­to an ar­gu­ment with a stranger.

The stranger pulled out a cut­lass and chopped the man twice on his head, his right foot, right hand and low­er back be­fore run­ning away.

Passers­by took the bleed­ing man to the hos­pi­tal where he was still be­ing ex­am­ined by doc­tors as of Sun­day morn­ing.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said doc­tors were await­ing the re­sults of a CT scan to de­ter­mine the ex­tent of dam­age.

Po­lice from the St Joseph CID are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
