Two men ambushed a 47-year-old man before beating and stabbing him during an attack at Borde Narve Village, San Fernando, on Saturday night.
Investigators said Jason Soogrim, 47, remains warded in a serious condition at the San Fernando General Hospital even as police hunt for the suspects.
Police said around 9pm, Soogrim, of Pancham Gardens, Cipero Road, was standing along the roadway opposite Pioneer Bar when a black Mazda 3 stopped beside him. Two men got out of the vehicle, and an argument broke out over a family issue.
During the altercation, one of the men hit Soogrim several times on the head with a piece of wood, while the other stabbed him multiple times about the body. The attackers then escaped in the same vehicle, heading west.
Soogrim was taken by a friend to the Princes Town District Health Facility and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was treated for several injuries, including a 5-centimetre cut to the right side of his head, a 2-centimetre puncture wound near the upper back, and smaller wounds to the chest and back.
Investigators from the Princes Town Police District, led by PC Basdeo, canvassed the area for CCTV footage and are continuing inquiries. Police said one of the suspects is known to Soogrim. Investigations are continuing.
