A man died af­ter his car crashed in­to the back of a garbage truck in Cou­va late Sun­day night.

The de­ceased has been iden­ti­fied as 44-year-old Ter­rance Ali of Perth Av­enue, Per­se­ver­ance Vil­lage.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the garbage truck dri­ver was col­lect­ing trash along the South­ern Main Road in Mc Bean, near Din­di­al’s Stock­pile, around 11:15 p.m. when he felt an im­pact at the rear of the ve­hi­cle. He dis­cov­ered a gold Nis­san Almera had col­lid­ed with the truck.

Ali, the car’s dri­ver, ap­peared un­re­spon­sive. Emer­gency ser­vices took him to the Cou­va Health Fa­cil­i­ty, where he was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival.
