A San­gre Grande man was killed when he tried to de­fend his com­mon-law wife from a man who at­tempt­ed to wine on her at a bar on Fri­day.

Keron Mod­este-Jack, 39, of North East­ern Set­tle­ment, was lim­ing at the pop­u­lar es­tab­lish­ment with the 34-year-old woman, from Oropouche Road, San­gre Grande, around 6.30 pm when a man from Bois Bande Vil­lage, who was known to the woman, came up and at­tempt­ed to gy­rate on her. She pushed him off and walked away.

Mod­este-Jack smashed a glass bot­tle and con­front­ed the sus­pect. The two men then got in­to a fight.

The woman told po­lice she ran off but lat­er found Mod­este-Jack bleed­ing from wounds to his head and back. She took him to the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed but died at 10.47 pm.

The sus­pect, whose hands were in­jured dur­ing the in­ci­dent, was al­so tak­en to hos­pi­tal.

He was in­ter­viewed by the po­lice and re­mained ward­ed up to yes­ter­day.
