Man fined $65,000 for ammo, gun parts found in toy basket

A 28-year-old man was fined $65,000 for two firearm-re­lat­ed of­fences af­ter am­mo and parts for a gun were found in a toy bas­ket and freez­er.

An­dell Valdez of Re­trench Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do, plead­ed guilty be­fore San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trate Bri­an De­bideen, charged with pos­ses­sion of firearms for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing and pos­ses­sion of firearms.

The charges stemmed from a search con­duct­ed by po­lice of­fi­cers at his home on Feb­ru­ary 23, 2024.

Dur­ing the search,  it is al­leged that the of­fi­cers found com­po­nents of firearms and 15 nine-mil­lime­tre rounds of am­mu­ni­tion amongst toys in a pink plas­tic bas­ket in a bed­room and a freez­er. He was charged by PC Ju­goon.

Valdez was rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Ki­ran Pan­day.

He was fined $50,000 on the traf­fick­ing charge and $15000 on the am­mu­ni­tion charge. He has un­til June 6, 2026, to pay the fines.
