A man charged under the new Home Invasion Act has been granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with strict conditions after appearing before the High Court Criminal Division in south Trinidad.
Shawn Cummings, 37, of Sixth Company Circular Road, Indian Walk, faces charges of wounding with intent and home invasion arising out of an alleged cutlass attack on Andrew Teesdale on April 5.
The matter was heard yesterday before Master Gray. Prosecutor Amit Jaggernauth appeared for the State, while Cummings was represented by attorneys Jason Jackson and Krysan Rambert. Rambert made the bail application on behalf of the accused.
The court granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with one surety.
As part of his bail conditions, Cummings was ordered to reside at his stated address and report to the Princes Town Police Station every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday between 6 am and 6 pm. He was also placed on a nightly curfew from 7 pm to 6 am.
In addition, the accused must have no contact with the virtual complainant and is required to remain at least 500 metres away from him.
The prosecution raised no objection to bail. The court also noted that Cummings has no previous criminal record.
The matter has been adjourned to September 9.
