A 44-year-old man was sched­uled to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate vir­tu­al­ly to­day af­ter be­ing ar­rest­ed for re­peat­ed­ly rap­ing a ten-year-old girl and try­ing to suf­fo­cate her with a pil­low.

Ac­cord­ing to the TTPS, of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Child Pro­tec­tion Unit (CPU) ar­rest­ed the un­em­ployed man on Mon­day dur­ing an ex­er­cise spear­head­ed by W/Supt (Ag) George, ASP Now­butt and su­per­vised by In­sp David­son.

The TTPS said the ten-year-old girl con­fid­ed in her aunt and grand­moth­er that she was be­ing re­peat­ed­ly raped.

A re­port was made to the Child Pro­tec­tion Unit North East­ern Di­vi­sion, and PC Hospedales was de­tailed to con­duct en­quiries.

His in­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that dur­ing the pe­ri­od March 2019 and Sep­tem­ber 9, 2020, the girl was sex­u­al­ly as­sault­ed on nu­mer­ous oc­ca­sions by the sus­pect and dur­ing one en­counter he at­tempt­ed to suf­fo­cate her us­ing a pil­low.

On Mon­day the sus­pect was held and charged with sev­en counts of sex­u­al pen­e­tra­tion of a mi­nor and one count of at­tempt­ed suf­fo­ca­tion of a mi­nor.
