A shoot­ing in Barataria on Thurs­day af­ter­noon end­ed with the death of one man and the wound­ing of an­oth­er at a car wash.

Po­lice said Eli­jah Sam­bury, 23, and an­oth­er man were at the tent on Sev­enth Av­enue, at around 2.15 pm when a black Nis­san Ti­i­da hatch­back drove up to them.

Gun­men opened fire, hit­ting Sam­bury sev­er­al times, killing him in­stant­ly.

The sec­ond man was tak­en to hos­pi­tal by passers-by.

Of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and the Barataria CID vis­it­ed the scene with crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors.

When Guardian Me­dia vis­it­ed the scene on Wednes­day af­ter­noon, fright­ened res­i­dents re­called hear­ing the sound of au­to­mat­ic gun­fire.

Res­i­dents said Sam­bury was not known to be in­volved in any­thing il­le­gal.
