A brazen shoot­ing along the high­way near the Beetham Gar­dens yes­ter­day claimed the life of a man and re­sult­ed in a traf­fic jam for com­muters ex­it­ing the cap­i­tal city. The vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as 26-year-old Sha­keem Reid.

Ac­cord­ing to in­for­ma­tion, short­ly be­fore 11 am, gun­men opened fire on Reid while he was walk­ing near the high­way in the vicin­i­ty of 19th Street.

The po­lice were alert­ed, and on ar­rival, they dis­cov­ered Reid’s body ly­ing in a pool of blood. Sev­er­al spent shells were al­so found near the east­bound lane of the Beetham High­way.

Po­lice re­ports in­di­cat­ed that the ve­hi­cle used in the killing was lat­er re­cov­ered along An­nisette Street in Port-of-Spain.

The in­ci­dent al­so re­sult­ed in a traf­fic jam as po­lice of­fi­cers tem­porar­i­ly blocked off a lane of the high­way. Rel­a­tives of the mur­dered man were in tears at the scene. In­ves­ti­ga­tors are still work­ing on a mo­tive for the killing.
