A 42-year-old man was robbed of over $30,000 min­utes af­ter a bank with­draw­al in Trinci­ty on Thurs­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, around 2 pm the vic­tim of El Pi­lar Heights in St Au­gus­tine had just ar­rived at Trop­i­cal Tent Rentals lo­cat­ed in Arou­ca when he was ap­proached by two men both armed with firearms who an­nounced a rob­bery.

The vic­tim be­came fear­ful and was re­lieved of an en­ve­lope con­tain­ing $36,000 cash which he had just with­drawn at a bank lo­cat­ed at Trinci­ty Cen­tral Road, $5000 cash, his In­finix Note 30 cell­phone val­ued $1900 and a card hold­er con­tain­ing his dri­ver’s per­mit, Sco­tia­bank deb­it card and $700.

The sus­pects then en­tered a light blue Elantra which drove off in a norther­ly di­rec­tion mak­ing good on their es­cape.

It is be­lieved that the vic­tim was fol­lowed.

On Mon­day, in a re­lease, the Bankers As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T (BATT) said it was con­cerned about the re­cent re­ports of rob­beries that seemed to be re­lat­ed to cash with­drawals from var­i­ous fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions.

The BATT, how­ev­er, as­sured that its mem­ber banks have a “ze­ro-tol­er­ance pol­i­cy” for any type of crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty, adding that they have al­ways placed the se­cu­ri­ty of cus­tomers as their num­ber one pri­or­i­ty.

The T&T Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) on Tues­day urged the pub­lic to be more vig­i­lant and re­port sus­pi­cious be­hav­iour.

Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice (DCP), In­tel­li­gence and In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Curt Si­mon said TTPS an­a­lysts are “drilling down deep in­to” the re­cent up­surge of rob­beries tar­get­ing bank cus­tomers.
