A 23-year-old man was robbed at gun­point af­ter pick­ing up a pas­sen­ger who posed as a cus­tomer on Thurs­day.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, around 4 p.m., the dri­ver, of Orop­une Gar­dens, Pi­ar­co, was op­er­at­ing his white E24 pan­el van, reg­is­tra­tion num­ber PBB 5224, when he was ap­proached by a man at In­de­pen­dence Square, Port-of-Spain.

The sus­pect claimed he need­ed trans­porta­tion for a group of peo­ple from 3rd Av­enue, Barataria, to the Pi­ar­co In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port.

The dri­ver agreed to the job, and the sus­pect en­tered the ve­hi­cle.

How­ev­er, up­on reach­ing Er­i­ca Street, Old St. Joseph Road, Laven­tille, near a church, the sus­pect ex­it­ed the ve­hi­cle and an­nounced a hold-up.

The rob­ber re­lieved Sama­roo of $220 and a dash­board fan val­ued at $120, be­fore flee­ing the scene in an un­known di­rec­tion. The to­tal val­ue of the stolen items is es­ti­mat­ed at $340.

The sus­pect is de­scribed as be­ing of African de­scent, slim-built, about 5 feet 8 inch­es tall, with a low hair­cut. He was last seen wear­ing a blue shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes.
