A 23-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint after picking up a passenger who posed as a customer on Thursday.
According to reports, around 4 p.m., the driver, of Oropune Gardens, Piarco, was operating his white E24 panel van, registration number PBB 5224, when he was approached by a man at Independence Square, Port-of-Spain.
The suspect claimed he needed transportation for a group of people from 3rd Avenue, Barataria, to the Piarco International Airport.
The driver agreed to the job, and the suspect entered the vehicle.
However, upon reaching Erica Street, Old St. Joseph Road, Laventille, near a church, the suspect exited the vehicle and announced a hold-up.
The robber relieved Samaroo of $220 and a dashboard fan valued at $120, before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at $340.
The suspect is described as being of African descent, slim-built, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a low haircut. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes.
