A St James man who was on his way home af­ter at­tend­ing a fam­i­ly get-to­geth­er on Christ­mas Eve was shot by a ban­dit who at­tempt­ed to rob him.

The 51-year-old vic­tim of Nizam Street, St James was re­port­ed­ly dri­ving in an al­ley lead­ing off Ma­ju­ba Cross Road, Diego Mar­tin, around 10 pm on De­cem­ber 24 when his car was blocked by an un­known ve­hi­cle.

It is al­leged that a sus­pect walked up to him and de­mand­ed he hand over his gold chain, and as the vic­tim sped off, the sus­pect fired sev­er­al shots at him.

Re­al­is­ing he had been shot in the back, the vic­tim drove to his home and alert­ed his 46-year-old wife.

A neigh­bour then took him to the St Clair Med­ical Hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed for a sin­gle gun­shot wound to the right side of the back.

The bul­let which pierced the vic­tim’s back and ex­it­ed through the right side of his chest, was lodged in his right up­per arm.

Af­ter un­der­go­ing emer­gency treat­ment, the vic­tim was ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion.
