To­ba­go’s mur­der count climbed to ten af­ter a man was shot dead on Sat­ur­day night near a church in Mt Grace, Scar­bor­ough. This is the sec­ond mur­der to have hap­pened in less than a week.

Po­lice said around 9 pm res­i­dents re­port­ed hear­ing gun­shots in the area. When of­fi­cers ar­rived, they found Samuel Ma­haraj, 32, of Mt Zion, Whim shot dead near the Mt Grace Open Bible Church.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors from the To­ba­go Po­lice Di­vi­sion said they al­ready had sev­er­al leads they were pur­su­ing. Snr Supt Rod­hill Kirk vowed the case would be solved.

“I am con­fi­dent that the po­lice will do all with­in their pow­er to bring the per­pe­tra­tor to jus­tice. I am not that man who will throw my hands up in the air. I have a good work­ing team, and I know we will make a dif­fer­ence in the To­ba­go space,” the se­nior of­fi­cer said. Kirk said Ma­haraj was known to po­lice.
