A Port-of-Spain man was shot in the left knee dur­ing a botched trans­ac­tion in Mal­oney, in­volv­ing the sale of gold which had been or­gan­ised via an on­line ad­ver­tise­ment.

Po­lice said the 27-year-old of Sev­enth Street, Beetham Gar­dens, had dri­ven his 40-year-old friend of Can­taro Vil­lage, Up­per San­ta Cruz; to La Hor­quet­ta, on Oc­to­ber 24, to meet the al­leged sell­er to pur­chase a quan­ti­ty of gold that had been ad­ver­tised on Face­book Mar­ket Place.

The two vic­tims picked up two sus­pects around 10.30 am in the vicin­i­ty of the bas­ket­ball court at Phase Sev­en, where they sat talk­ing.

Dur­ing the con­ver­sa­tion, one of the sus­pects pulled out a gun and an­nounced a rob­bery.

The two vic­tims were robbed of $900 in cash; a Sam­sung Galaxy S9 cell­phone; and the keys for the vic­tim’s Field­er Wag­on, be­fore the sus­pects or­dered them out and in­struct­ed them to run east along Slinger Fran­scis­co Boule­vard, Phase 7, La Hor­quet­ta.

As the vic­tims took off run­ning, they heard a loud ex­plo­sion and re­alised the sus­pects were shoot­ing at them.

One of the vic­tims was shot in the foot, while the sec­ond man­aged to es­cape in­jury.

Re­spond­ing of­fi­cers lat­er took the in­jured man to hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed and dis­charged.
