A part-time fisherman of Foster Road, Sangre Grande was shot and killed at his apartment while he slept in the early hours yesterday.
Garth Sansand, a father of four, was shot on his head and neck and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency surgery at Sangre Grande District Hospital around 4.30 am.
Police reported that around 1.30 am, Sansand was asleep with his 18-year-old girlfriend at their Stables Apartment on Marchack Street.
The woman girlfriend told investigators that she startled by heard explosions and saw blood oozing from Sansand’s head and neck.
She called the Sangre Grande police and EHS ambulance. Sansand was still alive and muttered some words to her, which she barely understood, investigators said.
Sgt Kirt Douglas, PC Rodney and WPC Aldolphus of Sangre Grande Traffic Branch responded took the injured man to the nearby Sangre Grande Hospital.
Visiting the scene were Insp Ken Lutchman Cpl Castillo, WPCs Seenath, Aldolphus of Sangre Grande CID and, Insp Christopher Fuentes, Cpl Mohammed PCs Lewis and Ramdial of Homicide Bureau Region 11, Arouca. Police recovered two spent shells at the scene of the shooting.
WPC Seenath of Sangre Grande CID is continuing investigation.
His killing has taken the murder toll to 48.
