A part-time fish­er­man of Fos­ter Road, San­gre Grande was shot and killed at his apart­ment while he slept in the ear­ly hours yes­ter­day.

Garth Sansand, a fa­ther of four, was shot on his head and neck and suc­cumbed to his in­juries while un­der­go­ing emer­gency surgery at San­gre Grande Dis­trict Hos­pi­tal around 4.30 am.

Po­lice re­port­ed that around 1.30 am, Sansand was asleep with his 18-year-old girl­friend at their Sta­bles Apart­ment on Mar­chack Street.

The woman girl­friend told in­ves­ti­ga­tors that she star­tled by heard ex­plo­sions and saw blood ooz­ing from Sansand’s head and neck.

She called the San­gre Grande po­lice and EHS am­bu­lance. Sansand was still alive and mut­tered some words to her, which she bare­ly un­der­stood, in­ves­ti­ga­tors said.

Sgt Kirt Dou­glas, PC Rod­ney and WPC Al­dol­phus of San­gre Grande Traf­fic Branch re­spond­ed took the in­jured man to the near­by San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal.

Vis­it­ing the scene were In­sp Ken Lutch­man Cpl Castil­lo, WPCs Seenath, Al­dol­phus of San­gre Grande CID and, In­sp Christo­pher Fuentes, Cpl Mo­hammed PCs Lewis and Ram­di­al of Homi­cide Bu­reau Re­gion 11, Arou­ca. Po­lice re­cov­ered two spent shells at the scene of the shoot­ing.

WPC Seenath of San­gre Grande CID is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

His killing has tak­en the mur­der toll to 48.
