Customers hoping to enjoy a meal of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in Gasparillo on Friday were sent scampering for safety after a man was shot to death at the outlet.
Luka Lorenzo Goring, 31, of Union Park East, Gopaul Lands, Marabella, died on the floor of KFC.
A police report said the labourer was with a female companion in line to purchase chicken around 7.20 pm. Goring and another man got into an argument, which escalated into a physical scuffle. Goring took a knife and stabbed the man numerous times. The man pulled out a firearm and shot Goring.
Surveillance footage and videos shared on social media showed an employee attempting to end the fight initially when a woman handed Goring a knife.
As it escalated, Goring held the man in a choke hold and stabbed him a few times. It was then the man pulled out the firearm and shot Goring, who ran to the other side of the outlet, where a boy stood in shock.
The body was take to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for an autopsy.
DCP Simon, Snr Supt Soodeen, ASP Phillip, Insp Maharaj, Sgt Reid and Sgt Bynoe, along with Southern Division Task Force’s PC Mitchell, PC Lake and WPC Boodram-Ramdass responded to a report of the shooting and spoke to several people. Detectives Sgt Mohammed and Cpl Ramoutar from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations: Region Three responded and took statements while Crime Scene investigators processed the scene and recovered three projectiles. District Medical Officer Dr M Santlal visited the scene and referred the body for an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Police did not locate the suspect up to last evening.
