Cus­tomers hop­ing to en­joy a meal of Ken­tucky Fried Chick­en (KFC) in Gas­par­il­lo on Fri­day were sent scam­per­ing for safe­ty af­ter a man was shot to death at the outlet.

Lu­ka Loren­zo Gor­ing, 31, of Union Park East, Gopaul Lands, Mara­bel­la, died on the floor of KFC.

A po­lice re­port said the labour­er was with a fe­male com­pan­ion in line to pur­chase chick­en around 7.20 pm. Gor­ing and an­oth­er man got in­to an ar­gu­ment, which es­ca­lat­ed in­to a phys­i­cal scuf­fle. Gor­ing took a knife and stabbed the man nu­mer­ous times. The man pulled out a firearm and shot Gor­ing.

Sur­veil­lance footage and videos shared on so­cial me­dia showed an em­ploy­ee at­tempt­ing to end the fight ini­tial­ly when a woman hand­ed Gor­ing a knife.

As it es­ca­lat­ed, Gor­ing held the man in a choke hold and stabbed him a few times. It was then the man pulled out the firearm and shot Gor­ing, who ran to the oth­er side of the out­let, where a boy stood in shock.

The body was take to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre in St James for an au­top­sy.

DCP Si­mon, Snr Supt Sood­een, ASP Phillip, In­sp Ma­haraj, Sgt Reid and Sgt By­noe, along with South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force’s PC Mitchell, PC Lake and WPC Boodram-Ram­dass re­spond­ed to a re­port of the shoot­ing and spoke to sev­er­al peo­ple. De­tec­tives Sgt Mo­hammed and Cpl Ra­moutar from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions: Re­gion Three re­spond­ed and took state­ments while Crime Scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors processed the scene and re­cov­ered three pro­jec­tiles. Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr M Sant­lal vis­it­ed the scene and re­ferred the body for an au­top­sy at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James.
Po­lice did not lo­cate the sus­pect up to last evening.
