Rad­hi­ca De Sil­va

A labour­er died on Sat­ur­day night, while his neigh­bour re­mains ward­ed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion at hos­pi­tal, af­ter they were both stabbed by a man they knew.

The mur­der oc­curred around 7 pm at the Mara­bel­la Recre­ation Ground at Bat­too Av­enue.

Po­lice said Ty­rone Howe, 22, a Cepep work­er of Kitch­en­er Street, Bat­too Av­enue, San Fer­nan­do, died on the spot.

Howe’s friend and neigh­bour Nikel Rawl­ins, al­so 22, re­mained ward­ed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal last night.

Po­lice said Rawl­ins was walk­ing near the recre­ation ground when he heard Howe scream­ing.

Rawl­ins tried to ren­der help to his friend but the at­tack­er stabbed Rawl­ins twice in the chest. Howe was dealt sev­en stabs and col­lapsed on the ground bleed­ing as the sus­pect fled. Howe died 20 min­utes lat­er.

Rawl­ins, who suf­fered a gap­ing stab wound to the chest, un­der­went emer­gency surgery and was said to be in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion Three Of­fi­cers, led by Sgt Bridge­mo­han and in­clud­ing WPC Ran­some and PC Srikissoon, vis­it­ed the scene and took state­ments from wit­ness­es. They were told Howe and the sus­pect were ar­gu­ing when the lat­ter pulled out a knife and at­tacked him. Rawl­ins was al­so at­tacked when he tried to in­ter­vene to help Howe.

Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Ram­lakhan viewed Howe’s body and or­dered it re­moved to the San Fer­nan­do mor­tu­ary. Howe’s rel­a­tives have de­clined to com­ment. An au­top­sy will be done to­day.

In an un­re­lat­ed in­ci­dent, Zion Dun­bar was shot dead in Diego Mar­tin on Sat­ur­day night.

Po­lice said Dun­bar, 20, of Sea Trace, Diego Mar­tin, was stand­ing along West­ern Main Road, when he was shot around 11 pm. He died on the scene.

Po­lice said Dun­bar was re­cent­ly re­leased from prison af­ter se­cur­ing bail on firearm charges. Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
