One of the suspects held in connection with the shooting death of six-year-old Kylie Maloney was positively identified by two witnesses at La Horquetta Police Station on Friday. Police also said yesterday that the arrest of the two other suspects are imminent.
The 25-year-old suspect of Damarie Hill, Sangre Grande, was held during an anti-crime exercise for arms and ammunition carried out by police officers attached to the Sangre Grande CID and Task Force at Northeastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, last Thursday.
That party was led by Inspector Ramlakhan and included Sgts Bhim, Leon, Acting Cpls Osouna, Khan, PCs Singh, Mohammed and the K9 unit.
Officers continued their search for the other two suspects at Damarie Hill, Blake Avenue and Northeastern Settlement over the weekend but were unsuccessful in their search.
The manhunt for the two suspects in hiding was led by Sr Supt Singh and included Insp Ramlakhan, Sgt Leon, Cpl Osuna, PCs Singh, Smith, Charles, WPC Stewart of Sangre Grande CID, Task Force and the K9 unit.
Police also took the 25-year-old suspect already in custody to Guaico, Sangre Grande home to look for items of evidence. The police found a pair army trousers, jersey and hat, which were seized by police. Investigators are preparing files to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution on charges to be laid.
Maloney, of Quash Trace, Foster Road, Sangre Grande, had to spend the weekend with relatives at Blake Avenue Extension, Damarie Hill , Sangre Grande, when she was shot after gunmen stormed their house on January 8.
Reports revealed that three men dressed in army uniforms and armed with guns entered the house and began opening fire. Relatives said Kylie, who attempted to run out of the bedroom where she slept with her mother and two male relatives, was shot in her chest and collapsed on the ground bleeding. She was taken up by relatives, placed in a private vehicle and rushed to the Sangre Grande Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries after undergoing emergency surgery one hour later. Her mother was shot in her left leg while her two male relatives were shot in the hand and shoulder respectively. They were treated and discharged.
Maloney died from a single gunshot wound to her chest, a post-mortem conducted at the Forensic Science Centre revealed on Thursday.
