A Maraval woman is expected to appear virtually before a Port of Spain Magistrate tomorrow charged with the murder of insurance executive John Henry Smith on July 23. The charge was laid by PC Shermon Martin of the Homicide Division.
Jamie Joseph-Smith, 41, of Haleland Park, Maraval, was charged following advice from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard on Friday.
On July 23 a distress call was made to the Police E999 command centre. Officers from the Western Division responded, and on arrival at a residence at Saddle Road, Maraval discovered the lifeless body of John Henry Smith lying in the driveway of his home with injuries to his head, with a woman at his side. Jamie Joseph Smith surrendered to the police and confessed to the murder.
Investigations were supervised by Assistant Superintendent Clarence Burnette, spearheaded by Inspector Leith Jones and conducted by officers of the Homicide Bureau Investigations (HBI) Region 1.
